One of the Communication Studies lecturers with students and alumni managed to bring home the third place in the Best Story Idea category in the 2021 Anti Corruption Film Festival (ACFFEST) held by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) 2021. As a lecturer who has been certified as a filmmaker, Mr. Novin Farid Setyo Wibowo, M.Si., managed to set aside no less than 424 other film proposals. In the making of this film, he served as producer and screenwriter.

Based on information from Mr. Novin “Initially the top 40 were selected and then the top 20 were selected. From the top 20, they were then met with the judges including Kamila Andini, a well-known director in Indonesia. From the 20 proposals, 10 works were selected. Then the ten works were funded 30 million per work. Alhamdulillah, Percent passed to be funded and mentored to be later realized in a production,” said Novin.

Through the banner of Raya Media Creative, Novin collaborated with fellow lecturers, alumni and students of Communication Studies of UMM. One of the lecturers that Novin collaborated with was Rahadi, M.Si who played Mr. Bowo, a Head of Village who was dishonest and liked to ask for funds for activities (Persenan). Several names of lecturers and alumni of the Communication Studies Study Program are also included in this film. Among them are Lukman Hakim as director, Bhekti Setyowibowo as Pak Karyo, project broker and IKOM alumni, Grise Febrianto who plays Jon, the filmmaker.

The concept of Film Persen-an tells the story of two filmmakers, namely Ocir and Jon, who are trapped in a circle of corruption because they get a project from the local government. In the film, it is told that in the local government, every time there is a project procurement there is always a discount which is called a gratuity. Corruption in the form of gratuities or deductions carried out by local officials in this story is said to have greatly disrupted the production process. This causes the quality of the films produced to decrease in quality, due to the large reduction in funds on many sides due to officials asking for commissions. “This percentage in KBBI means a gift or a gift. So this film raises the phenomenon in the government that applies a discount of a few percent of funds, thereby reducing the amount of project money received. The films produced in ACFFEST will later be used as a medium for the socialization of the KPK," he said.

Novin cites the weather as the biggest production constraint. Rain in the Ketapanrame Trawas area, which was the location for the film's shooting, had disrupted the production process. However, his team was able to overcome this, so the production process which took three days could run smoothly. Interestingly, this film is also planned to be included in several national and international festivals. "So the Persen-an film will not stop here, we will include it in several national and international festivals," said Novin. Congratulations to the Department of Communication Studies-UMM!
